Project Overview

The Gwinoop School of Law and Land-based Learning Society is undertaking a Wilp cumulative impact assessment of the proposed Prince Rupert Gas Transmission (PRGT) pipeline through the Hawaaw territories of Xsan Seegit in the Kispiox Valley. The project examines how the proposed development may affect the lands, waters, wildlife, cultural sites, and harvesting areas that sustain the Hawaaw family.

As part of the project, Gwinoop has hosted community gatherings where House members, Elders, Knowledge Holders, and youth come together to share knowledge, discuss cumulative impacts, and contribute to the assessment. Land-based fieldwork, led by Nii Lax Aks (Denzel Sutherland-Wilson), is documenting Indigenous plants, wildlife, fish, harvesting areas, travel routes, and culturally significant places throughout Xsan Seegit.

Together, this work will contribute to a Wilp-led cumulative impact assessment that supports future planning and stewardship of the territory.
