Sim’oogit Hawaaw is the heart of Gwinoop. As Matriarch of the House of Hawaaw, she carries forward the teachings, responsibilities, and love entrusted to her by the generations who came before.
As caretaker of Gwinoop and the Anjok, the family fishing site, she ensures the land is cared for with generosity, respect, and deep intention. Under her guidance, Gwinoop is more than a place to gather. It is a place where everyone is welcomed, memories are made, and people leave feeling they belong.
Her leadership reminds us that caring for the land is inseparable from caring for one another.
Sim’oogit Hanamuxw
Walking Library of Gitxsan Law
Hanamuxw carries a lifetime of knowledge rooted in Ayookxw, the Gitxsan legal order. Through his teachings, stories, and guidance, he helps ensure Gwinoop remains grounded in Gitxsan law while inspiring future generations to uphold and strengthen it.
His vision is simple yet enduring: that Gitxsan law will continue to live in the hearts of our people, for as long as the cedars grow.
Wesley
Steward of Place & Good Vibes
Wesley is the steady hand behind every Gwinoop gathering. From barbequing fresh salmon and preparing gathering spaces to maintaining the grounds and helping build a new smokehouse roof, he brings care, skill, and good humour to whatever needs doing.
His work often happens behind the scenes, but it is part of every welcoming experience at Gwinoop. Whether building, fixing, cooking, or pitching in wherever needed, Wesley helps create a place where people feel at home.
Rebecca
Culinary Delights for Gwinoop Gatherings
Rebecca believes that food is medicine and that every shared meal is an opportunity to build community. Inspired by the values of care, generosity, and hospitality rooted in her Inuit heritage, she prepares fresh, nourishing dishes that bring people together.
From barbequed wild salmon and Greek-inspired orzo salad to homemade brownies, salmonberry squares, and seasonal favourites, Rebecca’s meals reflect comfort, quality, and care. Whether serving workshops, cultural gatherings, or community feasts, she creates memorable dining experiences that nourish both body and spirit.

Hooxi’i carries forward the responsibilities of his Fireweed Clan through his dedication to the water, the fish, and the people. With deep respect for his Father’s Clan, he fishes to honour the teachings of generosity, reciprocity, and service.
